This meta-analysis analyzed the impact of molecular testing on surgical decision-making in indeterminate thyroid nodules. This meta-analysis included data from 31 studies, including 4,464 indeterminate thyroid nodules, and evaluated the effectiveness of various molecular testing platforms that are currently in market.

The findings revealed that molecular testing significantly reduced unnecessary thyroid surgeries, where ThyGenX®/ThyGeNEXT®+ThyraMIR®/ThyraMIR®v2 demonstrated the highest surgical avoidance rate of 68.6% compared to other available tests. ThyGenX/ThyGeNEXT+ThyraMIR/ThyraMIRv2 also showed the lowest heterogeneity (I² = 51.2%), which indicated greater consistency across clinical settings.

The high performance was thought to stem from the combined approach of ThyGenX/ThGeNEXT+ThyraMIR/ThyraMIRv2, which utilizes both mutational analysis and microRNA expression.

The data demonstrated that integrating molecular testing, particularly ThyGenX/ThyGeNEXT+ThyraMIR/ThyraMIRv2, could enhance risk stratification and reduce unnecessary surgeries in managing indeterminate thyroid nodules.

Patient management decisions are based on the independent medical judgment of the physician and molecular test results should be taken into consideration in conjunction with all relevant imaging, clinical findings, patient and family history, as well as patient preference.
